Hever Castle
Hever Castle's a very pretty castle in Kent, near Edenbridge.

Basically, Henry VIII built it for Anne Boleyn after she whined about wanting her own castle.

So he built her a little castle, with a moat, turrets, crenelations - everything!

Man... women nowadays are much less demanding.

Oh, of course he beheaded her afterwards... but that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, I was down at its lake today, just as the sun begun to set. You know those moments where the world goes totally pink, red or orange... just for an instant? Well, this was one of them. Quite a cold white balance too, to keep the blues. I quite like the symmetry too.

And I have to admit... I scared the duck from the side of the lake and shooed him a bit until he was in a compositionally-strong position. I'm such a monster: I'll do anything to get the photo!

She complained that she didn't have a castle? Woah, that's majorly pathetic.

It is a pretty photo.

In the olden days, if you didn't have a castle, you were a nobody.

By the same logic, I'd love a castle nowadays.

Very true. But wasn't she wife number two or three? That's got to count for something.

I don't really need a castle, but I'll take the duck, please.

The duck comes with the 6'5" hairy and virile monster, and the castle.

You can't have 1 without the other. erribly sorry.

Did you know that Beauty & The Beast is one of my favourite musicals?

The first 30 minutes or so (Belle's introduction, and then the reprise) is one of my favourite musical scenes of all time!

The 'Something There' -> 'Beauty And The Beast' section is also quite beautiful.

But anyway... No, no talking furniture I'm afraid. You'd have to put up with me as the only source of conversation. Orrible, I know.

Perfect picture and you can really tell the duck was scared of you!

Just one tiny correction please.... Hever Castle was built by William de Hever around 1270 and the added house was built by Anne Boleyn's great grandfather around 1465.... then the Astor's added another 100 rooms at the beginning of the 1900's.... here endeth the lesson! You should know better....rho

OK, my bad. My monitor seems to have got a bit darker over the years.

Brilliantly, it only has three gamma settings: too dark, washed out, and way too dark. Makes me wonder why they bothered including a setting at all, since such functions are better placed on the graphics card, and pretty much every card made in the last 10 years can do a better job of it.

No... I just kind of approached it mennacingly.

It's amazing how well the tall, dark, hairy and malicious-looking stereotype crosses over into the animal kingdom.

I am universally feared :(

i went to hever castle many moons ago with an ex, his sister and dad.

his sister and i were stood gawping out and saw a women dash past dressed in a stunning old dress. upon asking if there were anymore actors about that day we were informed that none were appearing.
my very first 'ghost' sighting.
then we had icecream.

so there you have it.

Let me think about that for a second...uh, how about no?!
How about you buy me a castle, let me have it, but still keep the deeds so that it is still your possession? You can be on the paper but I will have it until I am bored of it? Sounds good to me :D

Ooooooh, that's a good idea.
I've already told him I want us to be left the house when his parents die....he wasn't too happy with that thought of mine though.
Maybe I could get them to buy me a castle in exchange for grandchildren....do you think bargaining works in this day and age?

I think Hever's the only real location I've visited in Kent more than once.

My grandmother works as a guide there, so I've been to Hever Castle almost every year since I've been old enough to remember!

Once, when you were in your buggy, we went there and it was so early that no one else was there, so we walked around the Italian Garden and it was like we owned it, I remember that as it was very special!
